| Rhythm Records is proud to announce that, during the 16th annual SAMA Awards ceremony on 16 -17 April at Sun City, Chris Chameleon was awarded a South African Music Award for his album "Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou" in the Best Adult Contemporary Album: Afrikaans category. Chris was also nominated in theprestigious Best Male Solo Artist category for the third consecutive year. In addition, Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou’s producer, Theo Crous, was nominated for a 2010 SAMA in the Best Producer category. Chris Chameleon - The Year Ahead 2010 has thus far been a busy year for the prolific Chameleon. In February he recorded a new BOO! album in Amsterdam, the first since 2003, to be released later in the year. The recording saw him and former BOO! bandmate Ampie Omo joining creative forces once again, and Chameleon, Omo and Riaan van Rensburg (on drums) recently blew Ramfest festivalgoers away with what was BOO!’s first on-stage performance in five years. Chris was recently seen portraying the role of doctor-turned-lawyer Thomas Badenhorst on M-Net TV programme Binnelanders, with his character returning to the screen later in the year. In August, Chris Chameleon and his BOO! band mates will be touring the much-anticipated album in South Africa as well as Europe, and in October and November Chris will be back on the theatre stages of Belgium and The Netherlands, with plans to release another Afrikaans album at the end of 2010 or first half of 2011. | The South African Music Award (SAMA) nominations announcement event was held on 4 March 2010 and Chris Chameleon and his "Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou" album have been nominated in three categories this year. One is for BEST MALE ARTIST - this is the third year in a row Chris has been nominated for this top award. He was also nominated for BEST CONTEMPORARY AFRIKAANS ALBUM. In addition, Theo Crous was nominated as BEST PRODUCER for his work on "Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou." The award ceremonies are being held on 16 and 17 April. | The Chameleon camp has been rather quiet lately with good reason! Chris just recently returned from 3 weeks of recording the next Boo! album (with Ampie Omo and Riaan van Rensburg) in highly esteemed producer, Frans Hagenaar’s studio in the Netherlands. Though the album will not be finished for another two months, it’s still full Boo! ahead. Upon his return and after 24 hours of rest, Chris jumped straight into his new role on MNet’s BINNELANDERS soap opera. Chris will play a character called Thomas Badenhorst, a new lawyer on the block. | Chris Chameleon "Kyk hoe lyk ons nou" kykNET series starts 1 November | ||
| Chris Chameleon was approached by kykNET in 2008 to be the presenter of a new documentary series "Kyk hoe lyk ons nou.." In the series Chris and a camera team travels through South Africa to learn about the Afrikaans community's way of thinking, doing and communicating. "Kyk hoe lyk ons nou" will be be aired on kykNET on Sundays from 1 - 22 November at 20h00, with repeats on Mondays and Tuesdays. Chris also wrote the theme song "Altyd Tuis" for the series. Chris returned from the trip with so much inspiration and ideas for new songs, that a whole new album was created. "Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou" was released earlier this year. | Theater Tour 2009 to Belgium and The Netherlands | ||
| After a year that has seen Chris Chameleon perform a rock show tour in Europe, award-winning sold-out performances at South Africa’s most prestigious festivals, at the Mandela Day Concert as one of the South African representatives in Radio City Music Hall, New York City, a successful nation-wide tour with the large SAMA-award nominated production, Klassieke Chameleon, and finally performing at the 10th Anniversary of South Africa’s largest on-stage production, Skouspel; Chris Chameleon is ready head for some of Belgium and the Netherlands’ most renowned theaters. This is the third consecutive year that Chris has been invited back to perform in theaters across the Netherlands, a tour organized by Kik Productions (www.kikproductions.nl), and the first year that he makes his Belgian stage debut in a tour organized by Cultura vof (www.culturavof.be). Of this year’s tour, Chris says "It’s exciting to still be able to present myself to so many new audiences after so many years in Europe. I haven’t been in most of these theaters and this is a good example of how large the scene in those countries is compared to what we enjoy in South Africa. Every year I add a few more skills to my bag of tricks and I can’t wait to let the monkey loose on the Dutch and Belgian audiences. They are a rather discerning bunch of theater-goers and generally I take their response as a good indicator of the effectiveness of my performance innovations." Theater-goers also have two new album releases to look forward to: In early 2009, Chris Chameleon released "Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou" - a CD inspired by a documentary on Afrikaans speakers of which Chris was the presenter and narrator. Three years in the making, this 4-part documentary airs in November 2009 in South Africa. This year’s theater performances will feature popular tracks such as "Apie," "Eiland," and "Taal van die Liefde" amongst others. And a special release is being printed specifically for this tour, titled "Chris Chameleon: Live at the Folkwoods Festival" which is a live recording by Dutch Radio broadcaster NOS, of Chris’ performance at the Folkwoods festival in 2007 in Eindhoven. Truly a unique and magical recording which captures Chris’ live spirit as well as popular live songs which are not featured on any of his solo releases. Only 3000 of these CDs will ever be printed so they are indeed a special and limited release. If there is one thing people know to expect from this exceptional artist, it is the unexpected. Chris Chameleon is back in South Africa after a very successful solo tour in the Netherlands, Belgium and London. (14 October - 15 November.)
e shows were sold out or close to capacity. Chris Chameleon is now without a doubt as big a star in the Netherlands as he is in South Africa. Chris`s theatre-tour in the Netherlands was a huge success. The Theater Tour was organised by Kik Productions (http://www.kikproductions.nl/) based in Utrecht. These theatres are all well known in the Dutch entertainment-industry and it was a remarkable cultural achievement in itself that Chris Chameleon was invited to do a solo Theater Tour. Most of t >>More/less<< The tour itself took place in some of the most incredible theatres in Holland. From a former cathedral at Roepaen in Ottersom, to the Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht, to the Koningstheater in Den Bosch, just to name a few. The tour ended on a very high note when Chris performed to a sold-out crowd at the renowned Kleine Komedie in Amsterdam. The theatre has two balconies, and was filled with 500 enthusiastic (and many new) Chris Chameleon fans. During the week leading up to the tour, Chris did some key radio interviews with some national radio stations as well as a local one. These shows included an interview on Concertzender radio's program "Bazar," Radio 1's "Oog op Morgen", Radio 1's "Link Atlas" and an interview on Radio Noord-Holland to name a few. But by far one of the most important radio shows was his hour-long interview between 7pm and 8pm with Radio 1's Tuesday night "Kunststoff" programme. The chemistry between the presenter and Chris was fantastic and numerous people at shows told Chris that they came because of that interview. The interview and info on it can be found by clicking here. The plan is to return in May to do a club tour and play some festivals in June/July/August. Then in October/November 2009 Chris will embark on another theater tour in the Netherlands, organised by Kik Productions. He will also do a theater tour in Belgium, which will be organised by Garifuna Productions. ï Chris Chameleon also did three great shows in London. Both his solo shows at Aardvark were sold out. Chris also did a once off rock show to a full venue with his London-based band (Dorp also performed) at Halfmoon in Putney.
