He returned to South Africa in 1996 where he spent two years behind the scenes as an assistant director for both South African and international television productions. At the end of 1997 the allure of the spotlight seduced him back to the stage, this time as the frontman of one of South Africa's proudest musical exports, the monki punk band Boo!.
